M Resort to hire close to 2,000
The M Resort, under construction at the southeast corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and St. Rose Parkway, today kicked off a campaign to hire close to 2,000 employees for the property.
Candidates must begin the application process online, at themresort.com. Later this month, the company will open a career center on the resort site to conduct interviews with applicants. [

The Henderson Chamber of Commerce will host its monthly mixer from 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 25 at Vita Bella by Toll Brothers' Island Escape, 17 Via di Vita, near Montelago Boulevard in Lake Las Vegas.

CityCenter still on track
CityCenter is still on schedule for a December 2009 opening and will be able to secure $3 billion in bank financing -- the final piece of the puzzle -- by Sept. 30, executives say. MGM Mirage so far has commitments for more than $2 billion of that package, MGM Mirage Chief Financial Officer Dan D'Arrigo said today. [

CityCenter announces new retailers
CityCenter recently revealed several retailers and dining establishments planned for its 500,000-square-foot retail space known as The Crystals.
Scheduled to open late next year, the entertainment and dining district will feature Louis Vuitton, Tiffany & Co and Ermenegildo Zegna, among other retailers. The Crystals also will feature two new dining concepts from chef Wolfgang Puck, as well as a sushi bar. [

College of Southern Nevada gets its largest donation ever
The College of Southern Nevada Foundation today announced the largest donation in the college's 37-year history -- $8.2 million from the Engelstad Family Foundation to bolster the school's health sciences program.
The money will pay for a two-story, 10,000-square-foot addition to a health science building on CSN's West Charleston campus. The school's cardiorespiratory sciences program will occupy that space, which is scheduled to open in 2010 and will include teaching labs. [

At a time when businesses across the country are cutting back in the face of economic turmoil, the brothers at the helm of Station Casinos are accelerating plans for an enormous Las Vegas resort larger than CityCenter.
Frank and Lorenzo Fertitta, who took their company private last year with help from private equity giant Colony Capital, said in an interview Tuesday that they are going forward with plans to redevelop the site of the Wild Wild West motel and casino on Tropicana Avenue and Interstate 15. [

Clean energy summit at UNLV should add great momentum to renewables effort
Nevada is moving on renewable energy like a car whose gear is in drive but whose gas pedal is not being pushed. The potential is hardly being tapped.
Even at its current pace, though, the state has two sizable solar projects in operation and more are being planned.
Also, a 130,000-square-foot plant for manufacturing components for solar thermal power systems was opened last month in Las Vegas by Ausra Inc. And 15 geothermal plants are operating in Nevada, with 40 more in development stages. [

RTC has plan to save time, money by easing traffic congestion
The Regional Transportation Commission is embarking on an ambitious plan that will redefine transit service in Southern Nevada and provide a transit system that places a premium on what most of us value: our time.

Greeting seasons: Nevada Ballet Theatre’s 2008-09 season
Today seems like a good day to announce fall-winter performance seasons. Nevada Ballet Theatre recently announced its 2008-09 season, which begins October 17 through 19 with five performances of the full-length classical ballet of "Giselle" at UNLV's Judy Bayley Theatre.
The season continues with "A Choreographer's Showcase," featuring new works created and danced by artists from NBT and Cirque du Soleil, presented at the Mystere Theatre at Treasure Island (Nov. 9 and Nov. 16). A special matinee performance will be held for 1,600 Clark County students, inclduing participants from "Future Dance," NBT's education and outreach program. [
